TV469 – 1885 House Gown (Wrapper)

$14.00$22.00

Our 1885 House Gown is based on the description and illustrations from the May of 1885 issue of The Delineator. “The fronts have a yoke top to the which the lower portions are joined something after the Mother-Hubbard fashion, each side having three forward-turning plaits. The closing in made with button-holes and fancy buttons. There is an under-arm dart in each side, which removes the unnecessary width over the hip without interfering with the fulness produces by the plaits; and in the seam seams at the waist-line are inserted belt-straps, which hold the fulness of the fronts as closely to the figure as may be desired, the overlapping end being pointed, slipped thorugh a loop-strap and fastened over the other with hooks and loops. The back of the wrapper has a curving center seam and shapely side-back seams, cut off a little below the waist-line to permit of the addition of a full skirt that is gathered across the top and sewed to the body portions with the most graceful effect. The flounce which trims the lower portion of the skirt is shirred twice, far enough from the upper edge to form it’s own heading. It is sewn to position through each shirring, the closing edges beneath it being tacked together. The sleeves are in coat shape, and are entirely plain in their completion; and the neck is completed with a high standing collar. Upon each side of the front rests a pointed pocket, which is as pretty in effect as it is convenient.”

For this pattern, please disregard any attempt at standard sizing. Everyone is unique in body type and size, and we have come up with a completely different way of managing patterns. We have included comprehensive directions on how to size and adjust this pattern for a good fit. These methods are a little different than what you may be used to, so please read them carefully, before cutting out pattern pieces. It is strongly advisable to make a mockup of the Gown, before cutting out your fashion fabric, to check fit.

The E-Pattern contains the following formats:
Letter/A4 – 2 files, prints on 72 sheets, needs assembly.
A0 – Prints on 4 sheets, need assembly.
