TV499 – 1890s Vests

(1 customer review)

$13.00$19.50

The 1890s introduced the ladies suit, with separate vest.  This vest collection is designed to be worn under a jacket, but can also be worn without.  It can be made single or double breasted.  There are 3 collar variations for each;  notched collar, shawl collar, and no-collar.  The collars are all attached in the Flat-Collar method that was popular in both men’s and women’s vests at the time.  Though they are cut and sewn “flat” to the vest body, the collar is raised at the side and back of the neck and simulates a roll style look.  Even the no-collar vest has a stand at the sides and back of the neck.  This gives a beautiful shape to the collar, with much less bulk than a full roll collar.

The fronts are fitted with a single dart, and center seam for the double breasted option.  The front hem has a double point, and extends a little below the waist at the sides. The back is fitted with darts also, and has a shallow notch below the waist at the center back seam.  Full linings have facings for the front, neck, and hem edges for a clean finish.

The E-Pattern contains the following formats:
Letter/A4 – Prints on 58 sheets, two files, needs assembly.
A0 – Prints on 3 sheets.
Shop Copy – 36×60″ page 1, 36×58″ page 1.

Easy to construct and I didn’t need to make any alterations to the pattern. I added a bone in each of the front darts to smooth the front and you could probably add bones in the side seams too if you wish. The fit is flattering and I’ve been wearing my vest almost every day! It looks both elegant and professional paired with a white shirt and a colorful ribbon around my neck. Can definitely recommend this pattern!
