This pattern for a split skirt is taken from a tailoring guide of 1901. The Split Riding Skirt is ankle length, and the Bicycle Skirt is calf length. The center front has buttons to close the split. The center back has double box pleats to hide the split legs. There are two side front plackets with flaps for the closure.
This skirt is suitable for riding, hiking, bicycling, hunting, and other sporting outfits.

I used this as someone who had never used a pattern before, and my creation turned out quite well! My problems were there was no real description of what to do with the raw seams, so I ended up binding them with tape because I didn’t have enough seam allowance to fell. I had no idea what to do with the back plackets, so they are emitted from my creation. The hooks and eyes are nigh invisible from the back and the pleats are quite attractive. Onto a chemise and drawers!

This pattern is amazing and worth the money! I downloaded it and the instructions for printing and such are very well constructed. The instructions for the skirt making itself are really well done, though sometimes make you scratch your head, so read before you even begin! I’ve already made two of these and adore them. First time using a pattern like this…first time doing anything more complicated than taking up a hem and so far so good. I haven’t finished yet but the instructions are clear and I feel confident following them.
My only complaint is the lack of pockets but there are ways to put them in.

This pattern is so unique. The “secret skirt” is perfect! While constructing it, we were a little confused about the raw edges of the waistband. I think it’s smart to read through all the instructions first! Bernadette Banner did a video on this, and even though she modified it, it helped to get a visual of the process.
