The walking cage crinoline is a mid-sized support foundation for the period of 1856-1866. Called a “cage” because of the cage-like appearance created by the hoop wires and vertical support tapes, this type of crinoline offers maximum support capabilities for a perfect shape, combined with flexibility for comfortable wear. This cage is in a domed shape, perfect for the years 1856 – 1860. We have added a cincher style belt for ease of wear.

Our crinoline is 110″ in circumference at the hem, 33″ in length to hem level, and has 8 hoop wires to support the weight of heavy skirts. A “bag” at the hem keeps the wearer from stepping through the hoops.

The E-Pattern contains the following formats:
Letter/A4 – Prints on 12 sheets, needs assembly.
A0/Shop Copy – 33×29″ single page.

This crinoline can be made in three sizes; Medium, Large, and X-Large .

Medium
up to 29″ waist,
and 41″ hip

Large
30-36″ waist,
42-48″ hip
X-Large
over 36″ waist,
and 48″ hip
Fabric: 1 3/4 yards 1 3/4 yards 1 3/4 yards Use broadcloth, muslin, calico, sheeting, etc.
Grosgrain Ribbon: 5 yards 5 yards 5 yards Use 7/8″ wide ribbon or twill tape.
Bone Casing: 11 1/2 yards 12 yards 12 yards Use 3/4″ wide bone casing or other tubular casing.
Hoop Wire: 21 yards 21 1/2 yards 21 3/4 yards Use 3/8″ wide, plastic coated hoop wire.

Notions: Five (5) 1/4″ white steel stays, 4″ long. Ten (10) grommet/washer sets. 2 yards lacing string.

    Easy to make, even for someone who is relatively new to sewing! Should you need some help, there is a great tutorial from Casey Renee Cosplay on Youtube for this particular crinoline.

    Really easy pattern to assemble, I did it without minimal problems. It was quick to make, even though I had to hand-sew it all. The only issue was that the 4th hoop didn’t match up, but that’s probably my fault.
